A native of Southampton County, he had been a salesman for Gordon Metal Co., Richmond, for more than 30 years. He was a son of the late Walter T. and Mrs. Nannie Whitfield Johnson. Surviving are one son, Eugene Russell Johnson, Jr., of Spartanburg; five sisters, Mrs. Charles W. West of Ivor, Mrs. B.L. Warren of Portsmouth, Mrs. G.W. Leigh of Drewryville, Mrs. D.H. Andrew of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. E.A. Hatch, Jr., of Wakefield; two brothers, W.T. Johnson, Jr., of Windsor and Nathan W. Johnson of Baltimore, and nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, Monday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Horace Twine, pastor of Ivor Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. L.P. Bland, pastor of Wakefield Methodist Church. Burial was in Ivor Cemetery. Pallbearers were Willie Brown, W.T. Fort, R.D. Brown, J.W. Gorley, J.T. Faircloth, Jr., P.D. Cheatham and W.F.
