Shelbourne (Sid) Johnson, 72, of 1915 Virginia road, died Sunday morning at Duke Hospital in Durham, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Home Moravian Church. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. He was born January 2, 1904, in Franklin County* to Albert Sidney and Elma Whitfield Johnson. He spent his early life in Franklin, attended VMI, and the University of Va. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1925 and worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company 44 years retiring in 1969 as the factory manager of 12 Cigarette Factory. He was a member of the Oldtown Club and a member of Home Moravian church where he had been on the Board of Trustees as well as being an usher. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Willingham Johnson of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Austin M. Francis of New York City and Mrs. W. David McKinnie of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Helen Johnson of Hampton, Va. and Mrs. George W. Conwell of Franklin, Va. The family will receive friends at Vogler’s Main Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and request any memorials may be made to the Moravian Home for the Aging or to the Winston-Salem Foundation.
