JENKINS DIES HERE FRIDAY MORNING Mrs. Varina Bailey Jenkins, wife of F.F. Jenkins of this town, County Supt. of Schools, died at her residence in North High Street early this (Friday) morning after an illness of about five months. Mrs. Jenkins was before her marriage to Mr. Jenkins August 26, 1920, Miss Varina Bailey of Windsor, Va., the daughter of the late Charles W. Bailey and Mrs. Indiana Virginia Howell Bailey of that town. She was educated at the State Teachers College, Farmville, and had taught successfully in the high schools of Wakefield, Waverly, Prospect and Whaleyville, Virginia, besides being Supervisor of Rural Schools in her native county, Isle of Wight. While teaching at Whaleyville in 1920 she was married to F.F. Jenkins, at that time Principal of the Whaleyville High School, moving to Franklin when her husband became Southampton’s Supt. of Schools on December 1, 1923. Mrs. Jenkins was a woman of many fine traits of character and personality and had made a wide circle of friends during her fourteen years residence in Franklin. As a teacher of experience herself, she was naturally most sympathetic and helpful in the work of her husband as head of the public school system of this county. Uniting with the Windsor Christian Church many years ago, she moved her membership to the Franklin Christian Church upon making her home here where she was active and useful in the work of her church, and its women’s organizations, the Woman’s Missionary Soceity and the Ladies’ Aid Society. Besides her husband, Mrs. Jenkins is survived by two brothers, Columbus W. Bailey and Lorenzo Bailey, and two sisters, Mrs. J.C. Roberts and Mrs. W.S. Wilkinson, all of Windsor, besides several nieces and nephews and a host of friends wherever she was known. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence in North High Street Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by Rev. Dr. Elwood W. Jones of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Baptist Church. Burial will take place in Poplar Spring Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS. F.F. JENKINS HERE Funeral rites for Mrs. F.F.
