Walter Taylor Johnson, Sr., 79, well-known resident and retired farmer of Ivor, died at his home on Monday morning June 25, after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Nathan and Barbara Edwards Johnson of Southampton County, and was a member of the Ivor Methodist Church, of which he had been a trustee for the past 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Whitfield Johnson of Ivor; five daughters, Mrs. Vera J. West and Mrs. E.A. Hatch, Jr. of Ivor, Mrs. B.L. Warren of Portsmouth, Mrs. G.W. Leigh of Drewryville, and Mrs. David H. Andrews of Baltimore, Md.; three sons, E. Russell Johnson of Ivor and South Carolina, Walter T. Johnson, Jr., of Franklin, and Nathan W. Johnson of Baltimore, Md.; and 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Last rites were held in the Ivor Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, with Rev. J.L. Blankenship and Rev. Scott Hutton officiating. Burial was in the Ivor Cemetery.
