Joyner and Mrs. Mary Anna Joyner was born April 17, 1876, and died September 3, in his 58th year at his home in the Capron community. His early manhood was spent in Courtland where he was prominently connected with the business life of the town and community, later serving creditably as rural letter carrier until failing health caused his resignation. "Bud" Joyner as he was familiarly known, counted among his acquaintances many true friends. His genial disposition which he maintained to the end despite the pressure of ever-failing health in his last years, his willingness to accommodate and share with others, even to his own disadvantage, were some of the characteristics that drew and bound to him his fellowman as a constant friend. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Joyner; his wife, Mrs. Emily B. Joyner; one sister, Miss Annie Mae Joyner, four brothers, J.L., E.H. and W.T. Joyner, all of the Capron community, and F.T. Joyner of Ivor and four children, Bernard B., Frances and Emilyne Joyner and Mrs. H.B. Clauson, all of Norfolk. Burial was made in the family plot of Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, the services being conducted by Rev. H.F. Turner with music by the choir of the Courtland M.E. Church. Active pallbearers were: John M. Britt, J.J. Dickens, C.W. Parker, T.B. Bell, J.E. Whitfield, R.G. Edwards, F.L. Davis and Jimmie Joyner. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
