Joyner Sr., 63, was held Friday at 11 a.m. in Capron Cemetery by the Rev. D. Glen Langston. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin was in charge. Joyner died Wednesday as the result of an automobile accident. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and the husband of Erma Dale Williams Joyner. He was a former farm manager of Southampton Correctional Institute. He was also was a former employee of the old Pittman Wood & Metals Products Co.; and formerly owned and operated the C.L. Joyner & Sons Service Center. He was a member of Capron United Methodist Church; a charter member of the Southampton County Coon Hunters Association and Indiantown Hunt Club; a former member of Capron Ruritan Club; and a Boy Scout leader of Capron district. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Other survivors include two daughters, Carolyn J. Nurney and Charlene J. Davis, both of Capron; two sons, Charles L. Joyner Jr. of Capron and Wesley Grover Joyner of Courtland; a foster son, Mike Lewis of the home; a sister, Rachel J. Hamilton of Richmond; and seven grandchildren.
