He was the son of the late David E. and Polly Joyner of Southampton County. Mr. Joyner is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jennie Joyner; three daughters, Mrs. J.S. Britthingham of Victoria, Mrs. A.B. Wade of Joyner, Mrs. J.H. Spivey of Franklin; one son, O.L. Joyner, of Burdette; one brother, J.B. Joyner, and a sister, Mrs. Hannah Pond*, of Burdette. Funeral services were conducted yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at 3 o’clock at Burdette Baptist Church by the Rev. J.T. Garland Moore, burial following in the church cemetery. ******************************************************************************** DAVID EDWIN JOYNER COMMUNICATED David E. Joyner, farmer of Burdette, died February 4 from pneumonia after an illness of three days, although he had been an invalid for the last five years. He was 79 years old, having been born November 20, 1856. Mr. Joyner was the son of the late David Edwin* Joyner and Polly Eley Joyner. He was a charter member of the Burdette Baptist Church and served as in the same church until ill health prevented him. He married Miss Margaret Corbitt Bristow, who survives him, and of this union surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. John Brittingham of Victoria, and Mrs. A.B. Wade of Joyner; one, O.L. Joyner of Burdette; one step-daughter, Mrs. Sallie Bristow Spivey; one brother, J.B. Joyner, and one sister, Mrs. Bettie Pond, of Burdette, and eleven grandchildren. He was a great friend of all children, a loving father, a devoted husband and a man who had strong convictions for what he thought was right. He was at his best in his home. Funeral services were conducted at the Burdette Baptist Church by his Pastor, the Rev. J.T. Garland Moore, assisted by the Rev. R.E. Vellins of the Black Creek Baptist Church and Rev. W.H. Corbitt of the Holland Baptist Church. The floral offerings were beautiful and the large crowd assembled attested to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery. [sic*] Active pallbearers were: Emerson Spivey, Elton Spivey, J.H. Spivey, W.A. Talley, J.A. Talley, L.M. Raiford, Willard Barlow and James Corbitt. Honorary pallbearers were: W.O. Bristow, J.A. Edwards, Johnnie Camp, R.L. Corbitt, Richard Drewry, C.T. Stephenson and R.H. Raiford.
