All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HENRY CRAWFORD JOYNER Henry Crawford Joyner, a prominent lawyer of Powhatan County, died in Stuart Circle Hospital, Richmond, April 8, after a brief illness. He was born in Southampton County, August 29, 1896, son of the late Alexander Joyner and Mrs. Martha Faircloth Joyner of Sedley. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Mildred Bollinger of Amelia, his mother, two sisters, Mrs. J.C. Bradshaw of Franklin and Miss Doris Chase Joyner of Walters, and two brothers, Lindley Joyner of Walters and Wilbur Joyner of Isle of Wight C.H. Funeral services were conducted from the Friends Church, Sedley, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock by the Rev. Jesse Stanfield of Corinth Friends Church, assisted by Rev. J.W. Fix of the Franklin Christian Church. Masonic rites were conducted at the grave by Masons from Powhatan, Richmond, Amelia, Franklin and Courtland lodges. Interment was made in Rosemont Cemetery at Sedley. The body bearers were: Linwood Bradshaw and Ned Wills of Sedley, L.S. Herrink of Richmond, J.A. Tilman and John Farriss of Powhatan, Hert Wootten of Amelia, Fred Whitaker and J.A. Johnston of Eggleston. The honorary pallbearers were: Judge Edwin P. Cox and Milton Bonifant of Richmond, Ernest H. Williams of Smithfield, Rufus Johnson and Maywood Johnson of Sedley, Charles Simpson, Dr. R.D. Tucker and Winfrey Parker of Powhatan, Dr. Tilman of Rock Castle and Dr. R.L. Raiford of Franklin. Mr. Joyner was educated at William and Mary College and the University of Virginia and took his law course at the University of Richmond. He passed the bar examination in 1925 and since that time had had an extensive practice in Powhatan and adjoining counties. He was an active member of the Masonic lodges of Amelia and Powhatan and of the chapter in Richmond. He was also a member of the Elks and Samis Grotto of Richmond. He was an ex-soldier, having served in the S.A.T.C. of the University of Virginia and was at the time of his death a member of the American Legion Post of South Richmond. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Quite a number of people from Powhatan, Richmond, Amelia, Eggleston and Norfolk, Va., and Raleigh, N.C., attended the funeral.
