Mrs. Joyner was before her marriage, Miss Annie Virginia Bracey of this county, and was married 54 years ago to Elisha J. Joyner, whose death occurred about two years ago. Ever since her marriage she and her husband had lived at the old Joyner homestead near Franklin, Mr. Joyner being a deacon of Union Christian Church for many years, both he and his wife being active in the work of that church and all other worthwhile enterprises. She is survived by five sons, James I., W. Luther*, R.H., J. Raleigh and Edward E. Joyner, and by one daughter, Miss Minnie Joyner; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a large family connection in her home community. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock by her Pastor, Rev. R.E. Brittle, assisted by the Rev. Dr. I.W. Johnson of Suffolk, in the presence of a large assemblage of friends. Songs used by the choir included "The Home of the Soul," "The Old Rugged Cross," and a duet "Face to Face" sung by Mrs. W.S. Urquhart and Miss Frances Wade of Sedley. Interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being: W.E. Rose, F.P. Rose, H.L. Vaughan, S.M. Joyner, J.G. Joyner, A.B. Joyner, E.A. Scott and Sam Cutchins.
