Joyner Of Burdette Killed At Rail Crossing Joseph Beuregard [sic; Beauregard] Joyner, 85-year-old retired farmer, was killed Friday about 3 PM when he was struck by a Virginian Railway freight train at the Burdette station crossing. It had been Joyner's custom for years to meet the Virginian passenger train due at Franklin at 3 PM. He was struck by the freight as he started across the tracks to the station. The freight usually arrives here a few minutes after the passenger train, which was late. Joyner, a lifelong resident of Southampton County was the son of David and Mrs. Polly Eley Joyner and the husband of the late Mrs. Ada Charles Joyner. He is survived by two daughters Mrs. L.M. Raiford and Mrs. W.A. Talley of Burdette; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was a member of Burdette Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 4 PM at Burdette Baptist Church by the Rev. N.C. Clifton and the Rev. W.B. Watson. Burial was in the family cemetery.
