JAMES NURNEY JOYNER

   James N. Joyner, 80, a resident of Petersburg, died yesterday in a local 
hospital after a period of declining health.  Joyner was a native of 
Southampton County and had resided in this vicinity for many years. He was a 
former taxi operator and was the son of the late Baker and Sallie Harcum 
Joyner*.  He is survived by one son, James N. Joyner, Jr., of Norfolk and one 
sister, Mrs. Elsie Edwards of Norfolk, and four grandchildren.  Funeral 
services will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the graveside in the Sycamore 
Baptist Church Cemetery, near Courtland, Virginia.  The Rev. Wade Munford, 
pastor of Lebanon Methodist Church at Dinwiddie, will officiate.  The funeral 
procession will leave the chapel of E. Alvin Funeral Home in Colonial Heights 
at 2 p.m.  Pallbearers will be: Roland Munford, Raymond Munford, Gilbert 
Perkins, Linwood Williams, George Joyner and Lee Joyner.
