He was the husband of Mrs. Fannie Cole Joyner and son of the late Elijah Gilliam and Mary Anna Williams Joyner of Southampton County. He was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he was survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Joyner Sykes of Norfolk, and one son, Jasper Lee Joyner of Jarratt, four grandchildren and one brother, Floyd T. Joyner of Ivor. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Aug. 6 at 4 p.m. in the Holland Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Robert Lee Bailey, pastor of the Courtland Baptist Church. Pallbearers were M.R. Bryant, Sr., Thomas Vaughan, Emmett M. Applewhite, Leslie V. Whitehead, Lewis Babb and Guy Pope.
