Joyner, the beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Joyner, died in Roanoke, Va., where she was undergoing treatment for diabetes, Thursday, April 13, 1916, in her fifteenth year. Although she had been in ill health for some months her death was a shock to the community, but all her sufferings were borne with patience and fortitude characteristic of the trusting Christian and she was not afraid to meet the loving Master whom she had tried to serve and follow all through her life. She professed faith in Christ at a very early age and had been a worthy, consistent member of the Burdette Baptist church for several years. She was a young girl of most exemplary and lovely character, one worthy of study and emulation, always cheerful and patient in the home. She was an obedient child to her parents and was loved and held in high esteem by all who knew her. Besides her mother and father, she leaves to mourn their loss: two sisters, Mrs. L.M. Raiford and Mrs. W.A. Talley, both of Burdette, and a host of relatives and friends. The body was brought to Burdette Saturday morning and the funeral services were held from the Burdette Baptist church, Saturday afternoon, April 15, by her pastor, Rev. G.C. Duncan, assisted by Dr. F.H. Martin of Suffolk, the interment following in the family plot in Riverside cemetery. The pallbearers were: L.M. Raiford, G.E. Benton, C.M. Councill, Jacob Pond, Oscar Joyner, and C.E. Barrett. Oh, how much she did suffer,/ But how she bore it all/ Without a sigh or a murmer,/ Until she was called./ We loved her, yes, we loved her,/ But Jesus loved her more/ And he has gently called her,/ To yonder shining shore./ The golden gates were open,/ A gentle voice said "come",/ And without a word unspoken/ She calmly entered home.
