All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LILA KAREN WESTBROOK JOYNER Mrs. Lila Westbrook Joyner, 65, of Courtland, a native and lifelong resident of Southampton County, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 30, after a brief illness. A member of the Courtland Methodist Church, she was the wife of Otis M. Joyner and a daughter of the late James E. and Sarah Elizabeth McLemore Westbrook of this county. During the period of the first World War and for several months thereafter she held a position with the News Publishing Company as bookkeeper and society editor. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James L. Drewry of Drewryville; a son, Otis M. Joyner, Jr., of Courtland; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Duncan of Waverly and Mrs. Lillian Cobb of Courtland; and one brother, H.L. Westbrook of Franklin. Funeral services were held at the residence in Courtland on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Otis L. Gilliam, pastor of the deceased, and Rev. J.T. Cassell of Capron officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ladies Bible Class of Courtland Methodist Church. Active pallbearers were nephews of the deceased; W.R.L. Cobb, 3rd, Elwood Duncan, Owen W. Johnson, S.P. Johnson, Jr., Edwin Westbrook, Holton Westbrook, Dr. W.H.L. Westbrook, Jr., and John Westbrook. Lila Karen (WESTBROOK; Mrs. Otis M.)
