Joyner, an honored citizen and gallant Confederate veteran of the Capron community, died June 12, at the home near Capron at the age of 81 years. She was the daughter of the late Edwin M. Williams of Southampton County and had lived at the home established early after her marriage up until the time of her death, a period of 60 years. During this time her friendly disposition and her courageous and faithful life of service have gained for her many friends who are sad because of her going. She was a consistent and loyal communicant of Whitehead’s M.E. Church. She was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, on Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage of friends and relatives, the Rev. Clifton Ramsey conducting the service. A selected choir sang, "Safe In the Arms of Jesus" and " The Old Rugged Cross" and Mrs. H.M. Purviance sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." She us survived by one brother, W.L. Williams of Sedley; one daughter, Miss Annie M. Joyner of Capron; four sons, E.H. Joyner of Capron, J.L. Joyner of Courtland, W.T. Joyner of Sasser, Ga., Prof. F.T. Joyner, principal of the Ivor High School and 14 grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Geo. A. Lankford, Chas. W. Parker, Julian J. Jenkins, M.H. Bryant, Geo. B. Vick and T.O. Camp.
