Joyner, a well-known citizen of Southampton, died Monday afternoon at her home in Sedley following a brief illness. Mrs. Joyner was the daughter of John Scarsbrook Wills and Ann Elizabeth Holland, his wife, of Isle of Wight County. She was of a family of five children, one sister, who died in infancy and three brothers, George H., John S. and Joseph Wills, all three of whom were killed in action in the War Between the States. She was the great-granddaughter of General John Scarsbrook Wills, who came to this country from England in 1741 and saw service throughout the War of the Revolution. Mrs. Joyner spent the early part of her life in Portsmouth, Va., and later removed to Suffolk where she resided until after marriage and since that time had lived in this county. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Rufus L. Johnson and Miss Blanche Joyner of Sedley and one son, C.T. Joyner of Portsmouth. Early in life she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and was a member of Grace Memorial Church, Sedley, at the time of her death. The funeral services were conducted from this church on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock by Dr. Geo. H. Spooner, pastor of the Franklin M.E. Church, assisted by Rev. R.P. Welch, pastor of Black Creek Baptist Church. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery. The pall bearers were: J.H. Boyd, Dr. P.P. Causey, J.D. Owen, W.O. Bristow, Roger I. Beale, B.D. Crocker, G.S. Cornwell and W.L. Johnson. Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. B.D. Crocker of Suffolk, Mr. and Mrs. I.A. Johnson, Miss Cora S. Turner of Norfolk, M.P Claud, R. Johnson Neely, N.E. Adamson, H.B. Anderson, C.S. Sherwood, Jr., C.A. Robins, and E.C. Rose of Portsmouth and S.P. Johnson of Drewryville. Mary (WILLS; Mrs. Richard B.)
