All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ OSCAR LEE JOYNER BURDETTE - Oscar Lee Joyner, 64, died early Monday morning in a local hospital after a lingering illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Bertha Hasty Joyner and the son of David E. and Mrs. Virginia Corbitt Joyner of Southampton County. A lifelong resident of the Burdette community, Mr. Joyner was a member of Burdette Baptist Church and a deacon there. He was also a member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edwin J. Joyner of Franklin and Burton L. Joyner of Roanoke; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Joyner Wade of Joyners, Mrs. Marie Joyner Brittingham of Suffolk and Mrs. Sallie Spivey of Franklin, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Burdette Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. Edwin C. Thornton, Jr. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were A.C. Carr, Jr., N.W. Wills, S.A. Carr, D.M. Munford, Jr., F.A. Stephens, M.L. Raiford, J.T. Pond and Ocie Beale.
