All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARGARET VIRGINIA CORBITT JOYNER Mrs. Margaret Virginia Joyner, age 81, widow of the late David Edwin Joyner died at her home in Burdette on Monday night at 7:15 after a long illness. She is survived by the following daughters; Mrs. Maria Brittingham of Victoria, Mrs. Mary Wade of Joyner, and Mrs. Sallie Spivey of Franklin; one son Oscar L. Joyner of Burdette, ten grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 4:30 at Burdette Baptist Church by her pastor, Rev. Cecil Clifton, assisted by Rev. Rufus Corbitt, Rev. William H. Corbitt, Rev. W.B. Watson, and Rev. Hamilton. Burial was in the family cemetery. The pallbearers were: Richard Carter, Gurley Corbitt, Lloyd Raiford, W.A. Talley, Ryland Hasty, Arthur Carr, James Joyner and Hudson Raiford. ****************************************************************************** MARGARET VIRGINIA JOYNER Mrs. Margaret Virginia Joyner, wife of the late David Edwin Joyner died at her home in Burdette December 4, after over two years illness. Funeral services were held at the Burdette Baptist Church at 4:30 p.m., with burial in the family cemetery nearby. Her pastor, Rev. N.C. Clifton, was in charge of the services and was assisted by Rev. W.H. Corbitt and Rev. Rufus Corbitt, her nephews. Also assisting were W.B. Watson of Black Creek and Rev. Howard Hamilton of Jarratt. Mrs. Joyner, the daughter of the late William Henry and Emily Raiford Corbitt, was born July 16, 1863, near Unity in Southampton County, and spent her entire life within a few miles of her birth place. She was a charter member of the Burdette Baptist Church and had served in many capacities of church and Sunday school work. She was a loyal friend and neighbor and ever ready to help those in need. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. J.H. Spivey, Franklin; Mrs. John Brittingham, Victoria; Mrs. A.B. Wade. Margaret Virginia (CORBITT BRISTOW; Mrs. David E.)
