All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM LUTHER JOYNER William Luther Joyner, age 65* years, and a well known farmer of Southampton County, died Friday afternoon, April 11, 1941, at 3 o’clock after an illness of four months at his home near Franklin. He was the son of the late E.J. and Annie Bracey Joyner of Southampton County.** Survivors are one sister, Miss Minnie V. Joyner; three brothers, R.H., J.R., and E.E. Joyner, all of Franklin; two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at Joyners Christian Church by the Rev. R.E. Brittle. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery at Franklin. The choir of the church accompanied by J. Edgar Weede sang "Rock of Ages" and "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?" Misses Elizabeth and Frances Bunch, Frank and Percy Bunch sang as a quartette, "Have Thine Own Way, Lord." The casket was covered with a pall of Easter lilies and roses. Active pallbearers were Paul and Franklin Rose, S.M. Joyner, W. Hunter Scott, Norman Winstead, Joseph E. Edwards, L.R. Vaughan and Junius Blythe. Honorary bearers were members of the Men’s Bible Class of Joyners Church, of which the deceased was a member.
