Mr. Jernigan was the husband of Mrs. Cora Hayes Jernigan of Franklin and son of the late Richard Henry and Maggie Jernigan of Gates County. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church, the Bruner Bible Class of Franklin and the Woodmen of the World. Besides his wife he is survived by one granddaughter, Mrs. Mildred Jernigan, of Suffolk, a sister, Mrs. Ted Tomlin of Holland, and two brothers, Henry Jernigan of Murfreesboro, N.C., and B.L. Jernigan of Courtland. Mr. Jernigan was taken to the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and Sons of Franklin for funeral arrangements. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday from the home in Walnut Street with the Rev. R.D. Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Springs [sic; Spring] Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** EDWARD CROSS JERNIGAN Edward Cross Jernigan, 73, Franklin carpenter residing on Walnut Street, died Wednesday morning, November 9, after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Jernigan was the husband of Cora Hayes Jernigan of Franklin, and son of the late Richard Henry and Maggie Jernigan of Gates County, N.C. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and its Bruner Bible Class and of the Woodmen of the World. Besides his wife he is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Mildred Jernigan Brinkley of Suffolk; a sister, Mrs. Ted Tomlin of Suffolk; and two brothers, Henry Jernigan of Murfreesboro, N.C. and B.L. Jernigan of Courtland. Funeral services for Mr. Jernigan will be conducted from the residence this (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. Randolph L. Gregory and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, followed by interment in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers will be G.C. Duck, Jesse McClenny, Sam Mitchell, Maxie Day, William Duck, George Watkins, R.D. Rideout and R.L. Wellons.
