All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES ARTHUR KITCHEN James Arthur Kitchen, 55, a native of Berlin, Southampton County, died in a Charlottesville hospital on Tuesday morning, March 13, after an illness of several months. He was the son of the late James T. and Rebecca Stephenson Kitchen, and a member of Millfield Baptist Church, the Ivor Masonic Lodge, and the Woodmen of the World. Surviving him are two brothers, Herbert L. Kitchen of Sedley and Theodore W. Kitchen of Miami, Fla. Prior to his recent illness he lived in Washington, D.C., where he was employed by an automobile sales corporation. In quest of a healthful climate he had traveled extensively; but he always, even when he was far from home, showed great devotion and loyalty to his family, friends, and his church. Funeral services were conducted at Millfield Baptist Church on Friday, March 16, at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin, assisted by Rev. C.E. Gerringer of Scottsburg. The choir sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord;" and Joel C. Holland rendered a solo, "In the Garden." Active pallbearers were R.C. Cornwell, W.H. Felton, Elmo Hines, Harvey W. Stephenson and S.B. Stephenson. The deacons of Millfield served as honorary pallbearers. The Masonic Lodge of Ivor conducted burial rites at the grave in the family cemetery near Berlin.
