Mr. Kitchen, a native of Southampton County, retired from Hancock Peanut Co. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a former deacon of Courtland Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Adeline Grissom Kitchen; two sons, Larry J. Kitchen of Franklin and Robert V. Kitchen of Richmond; two sisters, Virginia K. Taylor of Franklin and Emily K. Parker of Princeton, N.C.; three brothers, A. Benjamin Kitchen and H. Reginald Kitchen, both of Franklin, and John L. Kitchen of Suffolk; and four grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Friday in Courtland Baptist Church by the Rev. Darrell Smith. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home handled arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Courtland Rescue Squad.
