Members of the Bible Class of the Courtland Baptist Church and close friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers. Interment took place in Riverside cemetery, Courtland. The deceased, a son of the late Robert Thomas Kitchen and Martha Babb Kitchen; was born near Franklin on September 15, 1886. He lived his entire life among the people he knew and loved. He was a devout member of the Courtland Baptist Church, of which he had been an active member since early boyhood. In 1907 Mr. Kitchen was married to Carrie Bryant Kitchen, who survives him. To the union were born the following children: Mrs. L.P. Jones of Emporia, Mrs. H.S. Taylor of Franklin, Sgt. Alfred B. Kitchen of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and James U., Reginald and John Irving Kitchen of Courtland. Other survivors are seven grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Effie Norris of Portsmouth, Mrs. J.F. Parker of Emporia, Mrs. Charles Hudson of Richmond, Mrs. A.T. Curtis of Chester, and Mrs. W.A. Bryant of Courtland; and a brother, Rev. J.D. Kitchen of Blackstone. Mr. Kitchen was deeply appreciated in his church and community for his sterling character and moral worth. He saw the best in people, and those who were privileged to know him were made happier and stronger because of his faith and his spirit of charity and generosity, which he so noble exemplified in his thoughts of others. He was a sympathetic, and understanding husband and father; therefore he held the respect of all who knew him. "When those we love have stepped across/ The threshold of God's door,/ They leave behind those memories/ That make us love them more."
