Mr. Kitchen, who was at the State Hospital in Williamsburg, suffered a stroke of paralysis, causing his death. His body will be brought to Courtland for interment. ****************************************************************************** ROBERT THOMAS KITCHEN Robert Thomas Kitchen died Wednesday, May 16, in the 70th year of his age at the State Hospital in Williamsburg. Mr. Kitchen was a loyal and consistent member of the Courtland Methodist Church and of a quiet, unassuming disposition. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bettie Kitchen; eight children, W.N. Kitchen, L.U. Kitchen, Mrs. W.A. Bryant, of Courtland, Mrs. W.T. Norris of Portsmouth, Miss Martha Kitchen, Mrs. J.E. Parker of Emporia, Mrs. J.B. Rowland of Henderson, N.C., and Rev. J.D. Kitchen of Newport News; one brother, J.D. Kitchen of Franklin; 33 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a large number of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the home Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock with burial services in Riverside Cemetery. Rev. C.C. Jones, Pastor of the deceased, assisted by Rev. Kenneth E. Burke and Rev. Mr. Tunstall of Emporia, conducted the services. "Rock of Ages" and "We Are Going Down the Valley" were sung. The grave was covered with beautiful flowers, a last tribute of love and respect from his loved ones and friends. The following were body bearers: H.D. Babb, E.F. Babb, Otis M. Joyner, Herbert Yates, J.E. Whitfield and L.M. Manry.
