All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN GURLEY KELLO John Gurley Kello, well-known Sebrell citizen and agent for the Virginian Railway at Joyner, was instantly killed early Monday morning at Camp’s Crossing one mile west of Sebrell while he was driving to Joyner and was struck by a fast freight. Mr. Kello’s body was under the caboose of a 60-car train when found, and the force of the impact carried parts of the automobile half a mile along the track. Mr. Kello, 59 years of age, was the son of the late J.R. Kello and Mrs. Maria Vaughan Kello, and was born and reared in the Applewhite community in this county. He was of a kind and genial disposition, numbering many friends. He made his home with W.B. Simmons of Sebrell, and had been employed by the Virginian at Sebrell, Bower’s Hill and later at Joyner. He is survived by a sister Miss Mattie Kello, two brothers, J.R. Kello and S.T. Kello, besides several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the old Kello homestead by Rev. R.H. Marks of Applewhite’s M.E. Church where Mr. Kello had been a life-long member, and interment was made in the family burying ground. The active pallbearers were H.E. Bell, W.B. Hall, Dr. J.N. Applewhite, Cecil Vaughan, 3rd, J.B. Vick, Earl and Samuel Kello, W.B. Simmons, Jr. and Shelley Doles, a number of friends of the family serving as honorary bearers. ******************************************************************************* JOHN GURLEY KELLO Suffolk, April 4. - Funeral services for John Gurley Kello, 60, railway agent for the Virginian at Joyners, who was killed at the railroad crossing near Sebrell, were held yesterday at the old Kello Home near Vicksville, conducted by the Rev. R.H. Marks. He was the son of the J.R. Kello and Maria Vaughan Kello, and is survived by two brothers, S.T. Kello, of Capron and J.R.
