KNAPP Nellie Paige Lowe Barnes Knapp, 91, died Jan. 16, 2000, at Waverly. A native of Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late William Selathius [sic; Salathiel] Lowe and Lula Mae [sic; Mason] Raiford Lowe. A birthright member of Corinth Friends Meeting and very active in the Ladies Aid Society, she was a community leader, having served as president of the PTA, a member of the Ivor Women's Club and worked as a volunteer for the Pink Lady Auxiliary at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was the wife of the late Robert Herman Barnes, and for a short while a member of Millfield Baptist Church along with her husband, the late Russell C. "Buck" Knapp. Predeceased by her son, Joseph Herman Bates [sic; Barnes], she is survived by her daughters, Kathleen B. Pulley, the widow of Marvin Pulley, of Surprise, Ariz., Ann B. Parks and her husband, Ronald Worth Parks of Jamestown, N.C.; beloved daughter-in-law, Edith Harris Barnes, the widow of Joe Barnes; stepson, Russell C. Knapp and his wife, Grace, and their children; stepdaughter, Marie K. Zimmerman and her husband, John, and their children, and Debbie K. Dameron; grandchildren, Bruce Pulley and his wife, Sheri, Mark Pulley and his wife, Karen, Danni Paige Pulley, Jacque P. Warren and her husband, Bryan, David E. Barnes, Dennis S. Barnes and his wife, Sharon, Joann P. Gibson, C. Daniel Parks and Julia C. Parks; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Jesse Lowe and his wife, Catherine; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Corinth Friends Meeting with Hugh Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield.
