A native of Hertford, N.C., he lived here most of his life. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Kinder King and a son of Mrs. Stella Whitley King of Hertford County and the late George Henchy King. He was a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church and a veteran of War II. Besides his widow and mother, surviving are a daughter, Miss Judy Lynn King of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. Edward Griffin of Como, N.C., Mrs. William P. Leggett of Ahoskie, N.C., and Mrs. Nathan Pope of Franklin. A funeral service was conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Ben W. Farley of Franklin Presbyterian Church and the Rev. W.J. McManus of Buckhorn Baptist Church, Como. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold S. Atkinson, Billy Eley, Marvin Reville, Willie L. Burrow, Edwin Beale, Joe Griffin, Bill Jones and Martin J. Shokley.
