Holland & Sons Funeral Home by Dr. Edward B. Lewis, Dr. Ralph D. Smith and Dr. W. Kenneth Lyons. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. King died Tuesday morning in Obici Hospital, Suffolk, after a brief illness. A native of Washington, D.C. and former Arlington resident, he had resided in Franklin only two months before his death. He was a son of Alvin G. and Mrs. Gertrude Vermillion King and the husband of Mrs. Myrtle Beaton King. He was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and a Navy Veteran of WW I. He was a banker for 52 years with Riggs National Bank. A graduate of the American Banking Association, his work at Walter Reed Branch of Riggs National earned him a ranking privilege of General. He was a member of Benjamin B. French Lodge No. 15, F.A.A.M., Host Lions Club, Dan Polling Post of American Legion, Oldest Inhabitants and past president of Organized Bible Class Association of D.C. His music career is well known throughout the Arlington area, and he worked closely with entertainer Kate Smith in assisting handicapped veterans. Besides his wife, surviving are three sons, George B. King and Jack L. Powell of Washington, D.C. and Raleigh H. Powell of Knoxville, Tenn., one brother, Willard A. King of New Bern, N.C., 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
