Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Grover and Flora Thomas Gray Pope and the widow of George Thomas "Mike" King Jr. She was a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, George Thomas "Billy" King III and his wife, Sammy, of Hampton; three sisters, Elizabeth Fowler of Franklin, Barbara Burgess of Capron, Gwendolyn Overby of Branchville; four brothers, Harvey Pope of Courtland, Linwood "Cat" Pope of Newsoms, James Pope of Courtland and William Pope of Newport News; two grandchildren, Katherine Porras of Raleigh, N.C., and Shavonda Turner of Fredericksburg, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Justin Thomas Porras and Kristina Lynn Porras. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Boykins Chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Langley and the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and suggest that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Mrs. June Duck, 100 Fairview Drive, Franklin, VA 23851.
