KNIGHT, ONE OF TOWN’S OLDEST RESIDENTS, DIES Mrs. Annie Wills Knight, one of Franklin’s oldest citizens, died Saturday night at the age of 95. Mrs. Knight had suffered a fractured hip prior to her death in a local hospital. She was the widow of the late John Robert Knight and the daughter of Capt. Irvin Cross and Mrs. Margaret Cobb Wills of Franklin. A native of Nansemond County, she had made her home in Franklin since childhood. Mrs. Knight was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, a charter member of its Women’s Missionary Union and a past president. She was also a past president of Agnes Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederates. Survivors include a son, James T. Knight of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. A. Gibson Howell of Franklin and Mrs. Walter F. Story of Suffolk; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Monday in Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were R.R. Knight, Jr. of Anniston, Ala.; N.W. Wills of Baltimore, Md.; A. Gibson Howell and Walter F. Story, Jr. of Suffolk; Dr. W.I. Knight, Jr. of Richmond and Tony Cobb, Franklin. Annie R. (WILLS; Mrs. John R.)
