ANNIE WILLS KNIGHT

MRS. KNIGHT, ONE OF TOWN’S OLDEST RESIDENTS, DIES

   Mrs. Annie Wills Knight, one of Franklin’s oldest citizens, died Saturday 
night at the age of 95.  Mrs. Knight had suffered a fractured hip prior to her 
death in a local hospital.

   She was the widow of the late John Robert Knight and the daughter of Capt. 
Irvin Cross and Mrs. Margaret Cobb Wills of Franklin.  A native of Nansemond 
County, she had made her home in Franklin since childhood.

   Mrs. Knight was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, a charter member of 
its Women’s Missionary Union and a past president.  She was also a past 
president of Agnes Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederates.

   Survivors include a son, James T. Knight of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. 
A. Gibson Howell of Franklin and Mrs. Walter F. Story of Suffolk; five 
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

   A funeral service was held Monday in Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. 
Ira D. Hudgins, pastor.  Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

   Pallbearers were R.R. Knight, Jr. of Anniston, Ala.; N.W. Wills of 
Baltimore, Md.; A. Gibson Howell and Walter F. Story, Jr. of Suffolk; Dr. W.I. 
Knight, Jr. of Richmond and Tony Cobb, Franklin.
