Knight, aged 76 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.L. Leavitt, after having been confined to his bed only two days. For three years however, he had been an invalid, his health declining ever since he suffered a stroke of paralysis a few years ago. The members of the house as well as an employed nurse, watched over and cared for him constantly these trying years. He was a native of Southampton County, but spent the first years of his married life in Norfolk where he was a successful bridge contractor. He then moved back to the county to the Hill place where he was a prosperous farmer, lastly moving to Boykins where he spent the remaining 25 years of his live, during the last ten of which he was retired from any business. He was a loyal member of the Boykins M.E. Church, of which he was a steward for many years and was faithful always to his pastor and his church. He was a good Christian, a devoted husband and father, bearing the burdens of life as well as the sufferings of his affliction without a murmur or complaint. A large number of his friends and relatives assembled at the home of Mrs. Leavitt on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock to pay the last tribute of respect and love to him. The services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. L.R. Black, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. A.C. Jordan. Miss Bessie Dodson sang "The Old Rugged Cross." While Mrs. R.C. Knight and Miss Frances Lawrence sang as a suet, "Lead Kindly Light." He was laid to rest in Beechwood Cemetery near Boykins in the family plot with many beautiful floral offerings on his grave. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.L. Leavitt of Boykins and Mrs. J.L. Lawrence of Murfreesboro; two sons, Charlie Knight of Lancaster, Penn, and George Knight of Boykins; two step daughters, Mrs. Addie Priddy of Boykins and J.E. Barnhill of Rocky Mount, N.C. and one step-son, Walter H. Britt of Boykins, besides ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Jennie Barkley of Raleigh, N.C. and many other relatives. Among those who came from a distance were Misses Bessie and Gladys Dodson of Portsmouth, G.M. Corprew of Portsmouth, Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Thomas of the Courtland community, Mr. and Mrs. J.E.
