All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ PETER EDWARD KNIGHT Peter Edward Knight, 64 years old, and a well-known resident of Courtland, died at his home there yesterday (Thursday) morning following an illness several months. Mr. Knight is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lelia Bryant Knight; two daughters, Mrs. J.H. Miller of Baltimore and Miss Helen Knight of Courtland; one son, Peter Edward Knight, Jr.; a sister, Mrs. Estelle Kirkland of Marion, Va.; a brother, B.F. Knight of Wakefield, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Knight was the son of the late B.F. and Sallie Claud Knight of this county. He held membership in the Courtland Methodist Church. Services will be conducted this (Friday) afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence with the Rev. A.W. Roten officiating assisted by the Rev. F.P. Davis. Interment will be in Courtland cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Funeral services for Peter Edward Knight, aged 64 years, who died at his home in Courtland Thursday morning, February 10, 1938, were held Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the residence by his pastor, Rev. A.W. Roten, of Courtland Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Floyd P. Davis of Courtland Baptist Church and Rev. Clifford Ramsey of Capron Methodist Church. Mr. Knight was the husband of Lelia Bryant Knight and son of the late B.F. and Sallie Claud Knight of Southampton County. He was a faithful member of his church and attended regularly its services until ill health prevented. He will be greatly missed in the home, in the church and community; and to the family is extended a heartfelt sympathy from his many friends. He was a well known farmer of this community until ill health forced his retirement. Moving to Courtland fourteen years ago he was employed by T.H. Birdsong & Company, which position he held as long as his health permitted. During the services of choir sang "Home of the Soul" and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" accompanied by Mrs. A.W. Roten. The casket was covered with sprays of lilies, roses and gardenias. There were numerous other floral tributes. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.H. Miller of Baltimore and Miss Helen Knight of Courtland; one son. Edward Knight of Courtland; one sister, Mrs. Estelle Kirkland, of Marion, Va.; one brother, B.F. Knight, of Wakefield, and a number of nieces and nephews. His sister, Mrs. Lillie Gillette, of Capron preceded him to the grave only by ten days. Active pallbearers were: T.H. Birdsong, Jr., T.B. Bell, J.J. Dickens, W.T. Joyner, W.A. Bell, J.D. Woodard, L.M. Marks and H.B. McLemore, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible Class of his church.
