[Special telegram to the Dispatch.] NORFOLK, VA., Oct. 25.- [...] John J. Kindred, a prominent member of the Southampton bar, died at his residence, in Jerusalem, yesterday. [...] ****************************************************************************** PETERSBURG. The Late John J. Kindred - Death of a Citizen - Young Men Ordered Out of The City - A Sad Case. [Correspondence of the Richmond Dispatch.] October 26, 1883. Mr. John J. Kindred, whose death at his home, in Southampton county, was announced in to-day's "Dispatch," was one of the ablest and most brilliant men in this section, and one of the most courteous and popular of men. He was about sixty years old, and a gentleman of the finest culture. Those who heard him in years gone by on the forum and before the people remember his speeches as efforts of rare oratorial power and eloquence. [...] ROBIN ADAIR. Death Records 1853-1890 (p. 288) gives the following: Kindred, John J., d. 24 Oct 1883, age 59, sn/o Henry & Lucy Kindred John Joseph KINDRED & Caroline A. [Antoinette] DREWRY were issued a marriage license 18 Oct 1859, by clerk L.R. Edwards, but the union is not recorded in the Marriage Register. Only 2 of the 5 couples on p. 5 of MB1 are in the Register- on p. 7, which is only half-filled. Caroline is marked with John, but she is buried unmarked with her parents in a DREWRY family cemetery, "Cedar Grove," Drewryville (3rd Row).
