JAMES HENRY KIRKLAND

   CAPRON - James Henry Kirkland, 67, died Thursday night in a Charlottesville 
hospital after a long illness.

   He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and a retired farmer.  He 
was the husband of Mrs. Lillie Chitty Kirkland and a son of William T. and Mrs. 
Priscilla Hollomon Kirkland.  He was a member of Capron Baptist Church.

   Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons, Paul H. Kirkland of Capron 
and James L. Kirkland of Franklin; four daughters, Mrs. R.H. Drake of Memphis, 
Tenn., Mrs. B.S. Ferry and Mrs. Robert Dunn of Norfolk and Mrs. Lee Stark of 
Vienna, Va.; two brothers, W.L. Kirkland of Ashton Manor, Pa., and G.W. 
Kirkland of Durmond Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Floyd Porter of 
Petersburg, Mrs. Annie Williams of Jarratt and Mrs. Oscar V. Randenbush of 
Philadelphia; and seven grandchildren.

   A funeral service was conducted Sunday at the Purviance Funeral Home, 
Boykins at 2 p.m.
