All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LUCY EVELYN ROWE KIRKLAND Funeral service for Mrs. Lucy Evelyn Rowe Kirkland, 77, of Story, who died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Friday morning, February 13, after several months of failing health, were conducted at the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. L.M. Kanipe of Courtland and Rev. J.S. Maxey of Franklin, in the absence of her pastor, Rev. O.L. Gilliam. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, the pallbearers being G.L. Bryant, Jr., John T. Faircloth, Jr., James Hughes, Claude Kirkland, J. Thomas Rowe, Homer Whitehead, Ryland Whitehead and W.N. Whitehead, all nephews of the deceased. Other nephews and friends were honorary pallbearers. Mrs. Kirkland was the widow of George Cuthbert Kirkland of the Courtland community, and the daughter of the late James E. and Mary Williams Rowe of this county. She was a member of Nottoway Chapel Methodist Church. The deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Edwin D. Priggen of Courtland, Mrs. J.T. Pond of Richmond and Mrs. J.J. Finley Jr. of Franklin, two sons, ---- Kirkland and J. Carlton Kirkland, both of Portsmouth; three grandsons; one brother, C.H. Rowe of Courtland; and three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Bryant, Mrs. R.N. Wells and Mrs. Bettie Whitehead, all of Courtland. Lucy Evelyn (ROWE; Mrs. George C.)
