LEE Albert Thomas Lee, one of the most prominent and highly esteemed citizens of the Franklin community, died at his home, Lee’s Mill, Isle of Wight county, Friday, January 14, 1916. He was 62 years old and had been in ill health for some weeks. He was of the well-known Lee family of Nansemond County, being a son of the late Captain Patrick Henry Lee, and his widow was Miss Mollie Copeland, daughter of the late Col. J.R. Copeland. He is also survived by two children, John P. Lee of Suffolk and Mrs. John A. Williams of Franklin; two grandchildren; two brothers, Willis J. Lee of Town Point and I.P. Lee, and by a number of nieces and nephews in Franklin, Suffolk and Norfolk. Mr. Lee was an honorable Christian gentleman, a deacon and faithful member of the Franklin Christian church, and a successful farmer with all of the hospitable characteristics of his family and generation. In addition to his farming operations, which were of an extensive nature, he operated a large brick plant and grist mill near his home. He was at one time a member of the commission form of Lee Bros. & co. of Norfolk. He was a familiar figure in our town where he numbered many worm friends who honored him for his sterling worth and integrity. The funeral services were conducted from his home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock by his pastor, Dr. C.H. Rowland, assisted by Rev. J.L. McCutcheon, the interment being made in the family plot in Poplar Spring cemetery here. Many friends and relatives from nearby towns were present and the flowers which they laid upon the grave of their friend were many and beautiful. The active pallbearers were the following nephews of the deceased; Joe Bynum Gay, J.P. Gay, Jr., J.F. Bryant, A.L. Gardner, Jr., W.T. Shannonhouse, Frank Nash, William Jones, Dr. Paul Jones, H.T. Jones, R.A. Jones. The honorary pallbearers were W.G. Williams, J.C. Williams, P.D. Camp, J.L. Camp, Hon. C.C. Vaughan, Col. L.R. Edwards, L.R. Jones, J.L. Morel.
