All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN PATRICK LEE Funeral services for John Patrick Lee, 79, of 811 Gettings Street real estate man and former superintendent here for the Portsmouth Water Department, who died from a heart attack at Obici Hospital last night at 6:30, will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the I.O. Hill and Company funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. George D. Alley, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church, and the Rev. Walter Whichard rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Mr. Lee was a graduate of Elon College and the University of Virginia and had been in the real estate business for 25 years. Prior to that time he had been associated with the Portsmouth Water Department for 30 years and at the time of his death, was still serving in a legal capacity. He was a charter member of Suffolk Lodge, B.P.O.E.; chairman of the Selective Service Board from the time it was organized during World War II, and was a member of Suffolk Christian Church. Mr. Lee was a native of Isle of Wight County, the son of the late Albert T. and Mary Copeland Lee, and was born at Lee’s Mill. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Atkins Lee; a sister, Mrs. J.A. Williams, of Franklin, and two nieces, Mrs. Everett R. Mr. Lee died Tuesday, March 13, at 6 p.m. at Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after having suffered a heart attack a short time before. He was a native of Isle of Wight County, the son of the late Albert T. and Mary Copeland Lee and was born at Lee’s Mill.
