Lee died at the home of her daughter Mrs. John A. Williams, in Clay Street Monday night, June 12, in her 80th year. She had been in ill health for several months since a fall in July, 1932, when she sustained a broken hip. Mrs. Lee was a native of Nansemond County, the daughter of the late John and Mrs. Dorothy Copeland, well-known citizen of the Suffolk community. On June 2, 1874*, she was married to Albert T. Lee of the prominent family of that name in Isle of Wight County, Mr. Lee dying January 14, 1916, at the old Lee homestead near Franklin where they spent all of their married life. A few months later she moved with Mr. and Mrs. Williams to this town where she had lived until her death. As a young woman Mrs. Lee united with Bethlehem Christian Church near Suffolk where she held her membership until her marriage, then moving her membership to the Franklin Christian Church soon after its organization here. She was a consistent and loyal member of her church, deeply interested in all of its activities. She was a woman of unusual strength of character and business ability, a devoted wife and mother faithful to all the truer obligations of life. Surviving her are two children, John P. Lee of Suffolk and Mrs. John A. Williams of this town, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Everett R. Bryant, Jr., of Middlesex County, and Miss Dorothy Williams of Franklin, besides a large circle of friends and a wide family connection. Funeral rites were conducted from the home here Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock by her Pastor, Dr. Elwood W. Jones of the Franklin Christian Church assisted by Dr. L.E. Smith, president of Elon College, Dr. C.H. Rowland of Greensboro, N.C., Rev. H.S. Hardcastle of Suffolk and Rev. E. Norfleet Gardner of Dunn, N.C. During the service Jas. L. Camp, Jr. sang Dvorak’s "Goin’ Home," accompanied by Mrs. S.W. Rawls, and the Christian Church quartette, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Jones, Dr. Darden W. Jones and Mrs. L.B. Norfleet, accompanied by Miss Mattie Bracey, sang "Abide with Me." Interment was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being; L.R. Jones, L.B. Norfleet, J.M. Camp, H.L. Westbrook, W.H. Norfleet, F.F. Jenkins, P.R. Camp and Geo. R. Hayes. The funeral was attended by a large number of townspeople besides many relatives and friends from Norfolk, Suffolk, and Nansemond County. Mary "Mollie" Harrison (COPELAND; Mrs. Albert T.)
