All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BESSIE GORDON CREWS LEIGH Mrs. Bessie Gordon Crews Leigh, 79, died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, April 27, at her residence in Drewryville. She was the wife of Vernie R. Leigh and a daughter of the late Beverly S. and Mrs. Georgia Woolfolk Crews. She was a native of Missouri but had made her home in Drewryville for the past 57 years. Prior to that she had resided in Danville. She was a member of the John Bannister (Petersburg) chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Drewryville Methodist Church and its Woman's Society of Christian Service, and the Drewryville Woman's Club. Besides her husband she is survived by one son, James Lee Drewry of Drewryville; one daughter, Mrs. Mamie Leigh Nottingham of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Dr. David B. Drewry of Petersburg, Burton Leigh Drewry of Drewryville, and Miss Betsy T. Nottingham and John Nottingham, both of Norfolk; and one great-grandson. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence by Rev. David S. Willis, pastor of the Drewryville Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. William W. Stennett, pastor of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. Burial was in the Drewryville Cemetery. Pallbearers were J.B. Crews, Bill Leigh, Charles Leigh, G. William Leigh, John Leigh, Jr., and John Nottingham, all relatives of the deceased. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Bessie Gordon (CREWS DREWRY; Mrs. Vernon R.)
