Leigh, 47 years of age, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B.S. Turner in Drewryville Tuesday morning. He had been an invalid for the last six years and made his home with his sister, Mrs. Turner. He was the son of the late William E. and Mrs. Delia H. Leigh of this county, and is survived by four brothers, V.R. and Joshua Leigh of Drewryville, Jesse C. Leigh of Hamlet, N.C., and B.B. Leigh of Miami, Fla., and by two sisters, Mrs. B.S. Turner of Drewryville and Mrs. W.P. Hobbs of Salisbury, Md., besides a prominent family connection in Southampton. Funeral services were conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon by Rev. A.W. Coates, pastor of Thomas Memorial Church, Drewryville, and interment was made in the family burying ground at the old Leigh homestead near that town. ****************************************************************************** CHARLES NICHOLSON LEIGH On Tuesday morning, April 7, 1931, just as the hopeful chimes of Easter had died away, and the skies that had been so low during the joyous season were clearing, and the birds were awakening for a springtime melody, the world was bedecking itself in the brilliant hues of living splendor, the bright and cheerful soul of our friend Charles Nicholson Leigh took leave of friends and worldly cares and passed on to greet the God of all love and beauty. Charlie had for several years wrestled with a relentless malady that would long ago have stilled the spirit of one less doughty than he. But in spite of the pain and discomfort he bore, a friendly greeting was always upon his lips and a smile upon his brow. And when the time came he looked with equal optimism and confidence into the unknown as that with which he looked upon life. He passed away in the home of his sister, Mrs. B. Sidney Turner, at Drewryville who had ministered with tender and living hands to his every need during the last few years of his invalidism. A last admonition to one of his boys was that he should look after sister always for she had left nothing undone to make him comfortable during his final sickness. Charlie was born March 11, 1884, the son of William E. and Mrs. Delia Powell Leigh of Southampton, and spent a large part of his boyhood in the home of his uncle, the late Dr. Nicholson of Sebrell. Early in life he was employed in Portsmouth and during his stay there was married to Miss Hattie Edmonds who survives him. Five children also survive: Charles N., William E., Richard, Carolyn and Harriet. His family now resides in Charlotte, N.C., where Charlie was employed by the Chatham Wooley Mills until ill health forced his retirement. Five brothers and two sisters also survive: J.P. Leigh of Portsmouth, B.B. Leigh of Miami, Florida, J.C. Leigh of Hamlet, N.C., and Joshua and V.R. Leigh of Drewryville, Mrs. W.P. Hobbs of Salisbury, Md., and Mrs. B. Sidney Turner of Drewryville. He was buried Wednesday afternoon, April 8, at the old home place near Drewryville. Charlie was a fine character and will not only be missed by his family but by a host of friends. The world was a brighter spot because of his life and a duller one because of his death. Because of him we can all bear with greater grace the disappointments and pain of life and look with greater confidence and composure upon the shadow of death. A Friend.
