Lloyd, a well-known and highly-esteemed citizen of Franklin for many years, died at his home here Saturday night after a long period of ill-health. Henry Walter Lloyd, who was 81 years of age, a native of Chatham County, N.C., the son of the late Henry M. and Mrs. Elizabeth Patterson Lloyd, moved to our town a young man as telegraph operator for the Seaboard Railway, afterward becoming Seaboard agent here. When the Western Union Telegraph Company established separate offices here he was agent for that company until failing eyesight forces his retirement about 12 years ago. He was a man of the highest principles of honor and integrity, and is remembered with affection by many of our older residents. A consistent Christian gentleman, a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of its Bruner Bible Class, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ora Johnson Lloyd of Franklin; two sons, Arthur E. Lloyd of Florence, S.C. and Joe L. Lloyd of Franklin; one daughter, Mrs. James V. Comly of Ardmore, Penn., and three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Harward of Raleigh, Mrs. Fred Noe of Pittsboro, N.C. and Mrs. Robert G. Ferrell of Aberdeen, N.C. and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at his residence on Bogart Avenue, Monday afternoon at 5 o’clock by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, burial following in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were W.M. Weede, Cecil Vaughan, 3rd, Richmond Peters, G.J. Johnson, J.F. Matthews and Dr. J.B. Powell.
