W.W. Laine Sr., 82, Died Mar. 11th After Long Illness 

  Walter West Laine, Sr., 82, died at his home near Manry Thursday night after 
a long illness. 

  Laine was a successful farmer in Southampton County, where he was born and 
had lived all of his life except for a number of years spent in Dendron, Surry 
County.  He was prominent in church and civic affairs. 

  Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Gay Matthews Laine; a brother, R.U. Laine, also 
of Manry; two daughters, Mrs. J.F. Joyner of Waverly, and Mrs. George O. Bass 
of Courtland; three sons, Willie J. Laine of Dendron, Ashton W. Laine of 
Newport News and Walter W. Laine Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 
and a number of nieces and nephews. 

  Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the 
residence.  Burial was in the family cemetery.  Masonic rites were held at the 
grave.

Mr. Laine, Father Of Mrs. J. F. Joyner, Buried Sunday 

  Funeral services for Walter West Laine, Sr., 82, who died at his home near 
Manry Thursday night after a long illness, were held Sunday afternoon at three 
o'clock at the residence.  Burial was in the family cemetery with Masonic 
rites held at the grave. 

  Mr. Laine was a successful farmer in Southampton where he was born and lived
