Lankford of the Sycamore Church community, died at the residence on Tuesday afternoon, November 25, at 1:45 o’clock after an illness of several years’ duration. A member of the Sycamore Baptist Church, Mrs. Lankford was the daughter of the late James S. and Mrs. Rosa Vaughan Cotton of this county. In addition to her husband, she is survived by six sons, James Irvin Lankford and Samuel W. Lankford, Jr., both of Norfolk, Royce B. Lankford of Nichols, Fla., and Hudson R. Lankford, William E. Lankford and Aubrey Lankford, all of Franklin; four daughters, Mrs. William H. Thompson and Mrs. Harold A. Walker, both of Norfolk, and Mrs. Sam B. Woods, Jr., and Miss Irene Lankford, both of Franklin; nine grandchildren; three brothers, W.O. Cotton, D.C. Cotton, Sr., and Pat Cotton, all of Franklin; and three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Cobb of Franklin, Mrs. Hinton Schramm of Newport News, and Mrs. G.C. Griffin of Chuckatuck. Services for Mrs. Lankford at Sycamore Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock were conducted by her pastor, Rev. L.M. Kanipe, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were the six sons of the deceased and Russell B. Cotton and Clyde H. Eley.
