All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ DAVID LANKFORD David Lankford, 72, retired merchant, died Thursday, August 9, at 6:45 p.m. at Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a short illness. Mr. Lankford, a native of Southampton County, had operated a grocery store in the Burdette community for over 40 years. He was a son of the late Joseph and Mrs. Emma Duke Lankford and was a member of Black creek Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lily West Lankford; one daughter, Mrs. Roger Drewry of Zuni; two sons, David Lankford, Jr., of Ivor and Hudson Lankford of Philadelphia; three sisters, Mrs. E.H. Whitely and Mrs. N.H. Bradshaw of Carrsville and Mrs. Dora Duke of Suffolk; one brother G.D. Lankford of Zuni; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Black Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Allen, pastor, and Rev. R.E Brittle. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Herman Bradshaw, William J. Byrd, Ryland Duck, Gilmen West, Raymond Taylor, Harrell Whitley, Edward Taylor and J.J. West.
