All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ DAVID LANKFORD David Lankford, 72, retired merchant, died Thursday, August 9, at 6:45 p.m. at Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a short illness. Mr. Lankford, a native of Southampton County, had operated a grocery store in the Burdette community for over 40 years. He was a son of the late Joseph and Mrs. Emma Duke Lankford and was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lily West Lankford; one daughter, Mrs. Roger Drewry of Zuni; two sons, David Lankford, Jr., of Ivor, and Hudson Lankford of Philadelphia; three sisters, Mrs. E.H. Whitley and Mrs. N.H. Bradshaw of Carrsville, and Mrs. Dora Duke of Suffolk; one brother, G.D. Lankford of Zuni; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Black Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Allen, pastor, and Rev. R.E. Brittle. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Herman Bradshaw, William J. Byrd, Ryland Duck, Gilmen [sic; Gilmer] West, Raymond Taylor, Harrell Whitley, Edward Taylor and J.J. West.
