All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELIHU LANKFORD Elihu Lankford, 83, widely known farmer of the Carrsville community, died in a Norfolk hospital at 2:30 o’clock on Tuesday, August 19, after an illness of several months. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Howell Lankford and son of the late Elihu and Mrs. Lottie Corbitt Lankford of Isle of Wight County. He was one of the oldest members of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, near Walters. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. L. Britt Holland and Mrs. Milton Miles, both of Franklin, and Miss Tyree Lankford of Carrsville; two sons, Johnnie Lankford of Norfolk and Forrest Lankford of Emporia; two grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services for Mr. Lankford were conducted at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Mt. Carmel Christian Church by Rev. Edwin C. Thornton, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.* Active pallbearers were Samuel Bradshaw, Jimmie Carr, Julian Carr, B.W. Daughtrey, Charlie Daughtrey, Tom Lankford, Percy A. Whitley and Everett C. Williams. It is unclear if and/or when his remains were moved (or even if the obituary is correct). His wife had died in 1931.
