His death came as a distinct shock to his family and friends, although he had had a heart condition for several years. Born July 19, 1890, in Salisbury, Md., he was the son of the late A.W. and Elizabeth Priscilla Lankford. He attended school in Salisbury and also the University of Maryland. In 1910 he came to Capron to live with and work for his uncle, the late William H. Vincent, in the Capron Box Mill. Later he and his partner, W.S. Bell and L.W. McGrath, bought and ran the box mill until it ceased operations. In 1917 he married Miss Alice Carey of Capron, formerly of Salisbury. He was intensely interested in the education of the youth of Southampton County, serving as chairman of the County School Board for over 20 years and being a member of the Board at the time of his death. He was employed as a rural mail carrier, and in this capacity he extended his already wide circle of friends. An active member of the Capron Methodist Church, he was a one time superintendent of its Sunday school. For several years he was chairman of the Board of Stewards, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was a Mason and a member of the Ruritans. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Miss Virginia Wright Lankford of Capron; two sons, G. Albert Lankford, Jr., of Norfolk and Anthony Carey Lankford of Philadelphia, Pa.; three grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Lankford of Emporia. His place in the community cannot be filled, and his many friends grieve with his family. Funeral services for Mr. Lankford were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Capron Methodist Church by the pastor, Rev. L.O. Wright, and burial was in the Capron Cemetery. Active pallbearers were cousins of the deceased: John Vincent, William V. Rawlings, Harold McGarth, Edward and Fred Bounds, Gene Thomas Vincent, and John and Ben Wyche. Honorary pallbearers include the member of the County School Board.
