ROBERT LANKFORD IS KILLED IN ACCIDENT AT THE CAMP MILL MONDAY J. Robert Lankford, an esteemed citizen of this town and foreman of the sawmill at the Camp Manufacturing Company’s plant here was almost instantly killed Monday morning when he became entangled in a conveyor belt, being at once removed to Raiford Hospital in a dying condition where he lived only an hour. Mr. Lankford who was a native of the Maynard community of Isle of Wight, was the son of the late John and Mrs. Texie Carr Lankford of that county, and was 41 years of age. He had been a valued and trusted employee of the Camp Company for many years, holding one of the most responsible positions in their large manufacturing plant here. He was a consistent member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of the Bruner Bible Class of that church, being a quiet, honorable and unassuming citizen, and numbering many friends in the town and community. He attended school at the Franklin Military Academy and in 1913 married Miss Mollie P. Vaughan of Isle of Wight, who survives him with one son, Charles Lankford, a member of the Franklin High School graduating class this year. He also leaves two brothers, Willie T. Lankford of Purdy and Joel E. Lankford of Burdette, and one sister, Mrs. John O. Scott of Carrsville, besides a wide family connection. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire town and community in the distressing tragedy. Funeral services were conducted from his late home in South High Street Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock, attended by a large assembly of friends. The services were conducted by Mr. Lankford’s pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, and interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The body bearers were: W.B. Simpson, Jas. H. Collier, Herbert Beaman, R.S. Barrett, R.H. Rawls, John Norfleet, J.L. Rountree and L.B. Holland, all of whom were friends and associated employees at the Camp Manufacturing Company. Members of the Bruner Class in a body acted as honorary pallbearers.
