LAWRENCE 74, DIES LAST NIGHT Jones Elisha Lawrence, age 74, prominent resident and farmer of Franklin died Thursday night at a Suffolk hospital after an illness of many months. He was the son of the late Jonas W. and Jennie Lee Lawrence of Nansemond County. He was born at South Quay in 1868. A member of the Franklin Congregation Christian Church, he served it faithfully until ill health prevented. On November 10, fifty years ago, he married Miss Irene Beale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carr Beale of Franklin and to this union were born two daughters, Misses Helen and Catherine Lawrence of Franklin and one son, Henry B. Lawrence of Portsmouth. Besides his wife and children he is survived by two grandchildren, Henry B. Lawrence, Jr. and Mrs. J.H. Boyd, Jr., both of Portsmouth; one great-grandchildren, Nancy Patricia Boyd; one brother, A.R. Lawrence of Washington, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from the residence in High Street Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock by Dr. Elwood W. Jones, with interment in Poplar Spring Cemetery here. ****************************************************************************** JONAS ELISHA LAWRENCE Funeral services for Jonas Elisha Lawrence, 74, who died on Thursday night of last week, were held from the residence last Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Dr. Elwood W. Jones, assisted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson and the Rev. B.B. Bland of Portsmouth. Music was rendered by members of the choir of the Congregational Christian Church, of which the deceased was a member. Pallbearers were E.P. Jones, L.R. Jones, W.H. ("Tup") Jones, W.H. Jones of A., L.B. Norfleet, J. Letcher Eley, E.L. Beale and J.A. Williams.
