MARIE LUCY JONES LAWRENCE

   Mrs. Marie Jones Lawrence, widow of Dr. Joseph Henry Lawrence, died 
Wednesday morning, October 20, at Raiford Memorial Hospital after an 
illness of some months.

   Mrs. Lawrence was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ellen Carpenter 
Jones of Fluvanna County, and was born March 28, 1874.  She was a member of 
South Quay Baptist Church, moving her membership from Pendleton, S.C., in 
1926 to make her home in this community.

   Surviving her are three sons, Lewis B. and Leigh U. Lawrence, both of 
Washington, D.C., and J.D. Lawrence of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. 
M.A. Bearden of Cliffside, N.C., and Mrs. Hilda L. Stutts of Franklin; eight 
grandchildren; four brothers, Horace L. Jones of Norfolk and G.C., B.A. and 
E.M. Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. Ross Wilson, of Atlanta.

   Funeral services for Mrs. Lawrence were held Thursday morning at eleven 
o’clock at the Franklin Baptist Church with Rev. Randolph Gregory and Rev. 
B.H. Watkins officiating.  Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the 
pallbearers being N.T. Duck, Jack J. Jones, James Jones, Lawrence Holland, 
Charles Rawls, Jim Rawls, James Rawls and William Jones.
