Mills Edward Lawrence, Jr., died at his home in Santa Monica, Calif. on Sunday afternoon, January 7, after a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been ill a week. He was born in Franklin on October 21, 1889, the son of the late Mills E. Lawrence and Josie Pruden Lawrence. In World War I he served overseas with the 80th Division and was wounded in the Argonne fighting. After the war he moved to the West Coast, and in [...; entire line illegible*] Marjorie Simmons, daughter of Dr. Robert Simmons of Portland, Ore., where they lived for several years before moving to Santa Monica. Eddie, as he was known here, was employed by the Standard Oil Company. He is survived by his wife; a son, Dr. Mills E. Lawrence, Jr., of Tacoma, Wash.; five sisters, Mrs. Winfield C. Jackley of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Louise L. Pillow, Mrs. W.B. Sykes and Misses Virgie and Doris Lawrence of Franklin, three brothers, Charles O. Lawrence of Norfolk and [Jas. Richard*] Lawrence and David Lawrence of Franklin; one niece, Leora Lawrence of Franklin; and six nephews, Charles O. Lawrence, Jr. and William S. Lawrence of Norfolk, David T. Lawrence, Jr. and Richard and James Lawrence of Franklin, and Lt. Lawrence W. Jackley, who is now stationed in Berlin, Germany. Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
